6th Tana High-Level Forum on Security in Africa
The 6th Tana High-Level Forum on Security in Africa (Tana 2017) took place from April 22- to April 23, 2017. Its theme was “Natural Resource Governance in Africa”.
The Forum acknowledged how natural resource extraction shaped social, economic, and political relations in Africa in multiple and complex ways. It was also observed that one of the most visible impacts of the extractive sector was the tendency to generate a spectrum of violent conflicts, ranging from low-intensity everyday tensions in the Zambian copper belt to large-scale insurgencies in the oil-rich Niger Delta of Nigeria.
The Forum’s Keynote address was delivered by H.E. Amos Sawyer, former President of the Interim Government of National Unity in Liberia.
The 2017 Annual Meles Zenawi Lecture Series was delivered by Mr Akere T. Muna, Chairperson of the International Anti-Corruption Conference and Sanctions Commissioner of the African Development Bank Group, Cameroon.
A special session was held on: “Leadership in Africa: Reflections on the Legacies of the Late Dr Wangari Maathai”
Additionally, a Public Lecture was held at the Bahir Dar University and was delivered by H.E. John Dramani Mahama, the former President of Ghana.
