Tana Forum to host side event at Munich Security Conference
February 15, 2019

The Tana Forum will participate at the 2019 Munich Security Conference taking place on 15-17 February in Munich, Germany. The Tana Forum in collaboration with the African Union will host a side event on “Peace and Integration in the Horn of Africa”, a topic closely related to the theme of this year’s Forum.

Speakers include:

  • President John D. Mahama, Former President of Ghana and Chairperson of the Tana Forum
  • Smail Chergui, Commissioner for Peace and Security, African Union Commission
  • Jean-Pierre Lacroix, Under Secretary General for Peace Operations, United Nations
  • Rosemary A. DiCarlo, Under Secretary General for Political Affairs, United Nations

Following the recent developments in the Horn of Africa, the security dynamics in the region are more promising than they have been in a very long time. The discussion among decision-makers from the region and the international community will focus on the current peace processes in the Horn of Africa and its implications for regional integration and actors beyond the region.

This dinner discussion aims to generate valuable inputs for the 2019 Tana Forum (4-5 May).

The Tana Forum Secretariat is based at the Institute for Peace and Security Studies (IPSS) at Addis Ababa University. In addition to President Mahama, the Secretariat will also be represented by Ms. Michelle Ndiaye, Head of Secretariat and Director of the Africa Peace and Security Programme at IPSS; and Dr. Kidane Kiros, Director of IPSS.
