Dr. Fana Gebresenbet, Ph.D. has been appointed as the Interim Director of the Institute for Peace and Security Studies (IPSS), Addis Ababa University.
Dr. Yonas Adaye, Ph.D., former Director of IPSS, was given a warm farewell by the IPSS staff following his recent appointment as one of the Commissioners for the Ethiopian National Dialogue Commission. On Tuesday 3rd May 2022, Dr. Fana assumed his new position as Interim Director after being congratulated on his appointment by the IPSS staff.
Dr. Fana is an Associate Professor at IPSS and teaches graduate level courses. He earned his Ph.D. in 2016 from the joint Ph.D. programme run by IPSS and Leipzig University. His dissertation was titled: “The Political Economy of Land Investments: Dispossession, Resistance and Territory-Making in Gambella, Western Ethiopia”. Dr. Fana’s research interests primarily focus on the themes: politics of development, political economy, pastoral development and conflict, and migration.
The IPSS family is confident that Dr. Fana’s appointment as Interim Director will significantly contribute towards the Institute’s further success.
